The Project
We were extremely excited to have been approached by Scopely to tell the story of Star Trek Fleet Command's Maia to promote the mobile game of this well-known and beloved franchise. In the animation, the independent crew of the Realta faces a dangerous Klingon assault and encounters Maia, an advanced and enigmatic AI who might hold the key to their survival. Engage!
Process
Every shot was (digitally) hand-painted by our incredible team of painters and and then animated as a 2.5D motion comic to push its cinematic storytelling further. We're big Star Trek fans, so this was a real dream to work on, and to make this project even more exciting Geordi La Forge was voiced by the legendary LeVar Burton!
Process
After we created all the illustrations and properly layered them, we worked on a few animation tests to see how to push Spine animation with just those paintings. The eyes and the mouth had to be separated and properly layered, so we could animate them.
